Mission
Statement
To publish and promote literary and artistic talent; elevate the esteem of the World’s Children and to benefit the helpless creatures of our planet.
Bonnie Nelson is the founder and principal of Popoki Press, LLC. Bonnie visited Maui in 1986 on vacation, fell in love with the island and moved there permanently in 1987. She was the Executive Secretary to the owner of Lahaina Galleries and through her twenty year affiliation, ascended the ranks and in 2003 was appointed as the Vice President of Finance overseeing eight retail galleries on both the Mainland and in Hawaii.
A writer in her own right, Bonnie assembled prose and poetry composed over the years into a book highlighting her life experiences with love, creatures and humorous situations that all of us share. Through the book “Speaking of Dreams,” Bonnie hopes to evoke the similarity of events and to encourage others to follow their instincts and live their dreams.
In 1992, Bonnie became a member of the Lahaina Yacht Club and began a secondary “career” as a volunteer. A few short years later, she was co-chairman of the Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament and then subsequently the Chairman for the Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race in 1998 and 2000, ascending to Race Trustee in 2002 and 2004. In December of 1997, Bonnie received the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year” award for the donation of her time and expertise to events in the community. In 2001, Bonnie was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Yacht Club and assumed the role as Chairman of the Board of Trustees in June of 2002.
Bonnie is a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise and is a Paul Harris fellow. Although no longer active, she plans to return to Rotary as a featured speaker traveling to the various clubs throughout Hawaii to raise awareness and to gift her second book “The Cheetah Portal” (in audio format) to contributors of the Cheetah Conservation Fund or the Kenya Water Wells Trust, both of which she is the Hawaii spokesperson. “The Cheetah Portal” chronicles her safari into the wilds of Africa where she battles demon phobias with her mother’s spirit beside her.
Bonnie is expanding her gifting to include anyone who has made a contribution to the planet or its creatures of their own particular talent. By simply sending an email to cheetahportal.com, people can receive a copy of her book and have their email posted on the site, thereby gaining recognition of their contribution.
Bonnie is currently working on her third book “The Mayan Chronicles”.
